R1 of SACC CR Open 2024
The SACC CR Open 2024 kicked off with an exciting series of matches, featuring local talent granted Wild Card entries, including Costa Rican No.1 Mauricio Bravo. Despite their determination and cheers from the crowd who came to support them, the experience of higher-ranked international players ultimately took precedence. Bravo, fresh from a championship win at the U.S. Skill Level Championships in Philadelphia last month, faced a tough loss to Josue Enriquez of Guatemala, the 2022 SACC CR Open champion [3-0].
The day’s standout matches were undoubtedly in the Men’s draw today. The first highlight that attracted the largest crowd saw Christopher Gordon and Luis Quisquinay battle it out in the longest match of the day, clocking in at 72 minutes. Both players displayed remarkable physical and mental resilience through four fiercely contested games, with Gordon ultimately securing his place in the Round of 16 [3-2: 11-9, 5-11, 5-11, 15-13, 11-5].
Another thrilling match captivated the crowd as England's young talent, Samuel Osborne Wylde, took on USA’s Salim Khan, a late addition to the tournament from the reserve list just one day before the event. The two displayed exceptional technique in a match filled with elegance and finesse, though it was Osborne Wylde who clinched the match 3-1, adding a memorable finish to the opening day.
